Hiko’s childhood was not specifically neither disturbed nor different to most in her circumstance. She was born an only child, her religious parents were still married although had their problems, naturally. They lived in Airin-chiku, formally known as ‘Kamagasaki’ a district located in Osaka, notorious for being the worst slum in Japan. The home to some thirty thousand day labour workers, some three thousand homeless, and close to ninety yakuza.
Although her family were dirt poor, her farther a construction worker without work and her mother forced to sell her body just to provide dinner, they were actually pretty happy. Like most in Airin-chiku no matter how bad things were, even if you were just one of the many sleeping on the streets you remained a sense of dignity and pride.
When Hiko was only seven years old, a letter arrived claiming her farther was needed to work once more. Things changed from there on.
Kept secret from both his wife and daughter, the building firm who recruited him was actually run by one of several yakuza gangs, the company only a façade to hide their illegal activities and before he knew it, Hiko’s farther was so deeply involved he could never get out. His wife asked no questions, content to use the extra money to retire from being a hooker and managed to scrape enough to send Hiko to a catholic secondary school in Tokyo.
After years of being left to find her own amusement in the dirt roads littered with rubbish, her only friends being the market sellers and homeless had made the transition to a boarding school so far from home more than difficult.
The young teen had rebelled passionately at first, causing trouble by destroying property and refusing to go to lessons. However this didn’t last, Hiko strived to make something of herself, to have a career that could provide enough to buy her parents a house out of the slums.
So decided to buckle down with her studies, finding her skills lay’ed within the sciences, especially human biology. Although this still was no end to her rebellious nature. In her third year at the age of 14 she befriended a fellow pupil called Kaiko known as the ‘delinquent’ student. Heavily influence by her Hiko began dying her hair extravagant colours and was introduced to substances of various kinds from nicotine to the pills Kaiko was medicated with for her ADHD. The pair managed to get away with almost anything, Hiko’s grades were perfect and she was seen as a good influence on the other, as Kaiko grades rose too. A year went by and the pair were inseparable and rumours around school were they were more than just friends.
News of such an abomination spread to the mother superior of the school, at first it was just brushed off as nothing more than gossip. However the pair were found in ‘ a compromising position’ inside a confessional by the head priest. Needless to say they were horribly punished for their sinful behaviour and separated, Kaiko was shipped off to another school outside of Tokyo and Hiko was never allowed to leave school grounds like the other students could.
Months went by and the girls desperately attempted to remain in contact, but it wasn't possible and after a year Hiko gave up, she became obsessed by studying anatomy and psychology and dropped all other subjects becoming a high achiever with both, staying up for weeks without sleep, compulsive in her revision.
After exams, Hiko finally left the boarding school and went to medicine school and completed her internship 2 years early with A*s with the dream of someday being a surgeon instead of just a normal doctor.
Working in and around hospitals did nothing but feed her addiction on prescription stimulants, becoming entirely dependant on the buzz of pills containing Amphetamines, easily available to staff everyday.
Hiko spent 2 years at another asylum, until she was nominated to be transferred at a higher position, most saw this just as a normal promotion. But some believe rumours that Hiko got caught in a ‘incident' involving a patient.
